Broughty Athletic are on their travels this weekend as they make the long trip to Paisley to face Central District First Division side Johnstone Burgh in the second round of the ETHX ENERGY sponsored Scottish Junior Cup at Keanie Park.EthxLogo_320x240

The Fed go into the game fresh off a 5-2 home win over Blairgowrie JFC in the GA Engineering Cup last Saturday and Fed gaffer Keith Gibson will be looking for more of the same come this tricky tie on Saturday. Broughty fell at this stage to Cumnock last season in a 3-0 away defeat.

dsc_0499-2Hosts Johnstone Burgh currently sit third bottom of their fourteen team league with only four points on the board from just six games played, but league form counts for nothing when it comes to cup football. Our hosts lost their previous home game last Saturday, 2-1 against Royal Albert FC in the West of Scotland Cup. Their two previous league games were an 8-0 thumping away to Cambuslang Rangers FC and a home defeat, 4-2, against Larkhall Thistle FC so a result is due for the hosts and they will make it a hard cup tie for the Fed.

Broughty notched up five goals last Saturday with a weakened side with this Saturday’s cup tie in mind, Paul McLellan, Jay Smart(pic above), Jamie Winter, Matty Adam and James Collier all getting on the scoresheet. Broughty also welcomed back long-term absentee Grant Lawson from injury but he may again have to be contempt with a place on the bench although with a few players on the injury list he may be recalled to the starting eleven. Currently, the Fed have at least two first team starters not making the trip with another two facing late fitness tests early Saturday morning.

All fans are reminded this game is a 2-30pm kick off at Keanie Park, home of Johnstone Burgh. Should the game end in a draw then a replay on Saturday 29th at Whitton Park will determine who enters the hat for the third round draw.
