Broughty Athletic welcome twelfth placed Newtongrange Star to Whitton Park this Saturday in a Super League clash.
The Fed are fresh off their third league defeat in a row, losing 4-1 away to Linlithgow Rose last Saturday, whilst at the same time Star went down to a crushing 7-2 defeat at the hands of Broxburn Athletic.
Broughty go into the game sitting in ninth position after eight games into the league season with just ten points on the board compared to last season’s total of 19 points at the time. It will be new manager Jim Finlayson’s first game in charge of the Fed following his and his assistant manager, Jimmy Glass’s appointments recently.
Visitors Newtongrange go into the game looking to put last Saturday’s 7-2 thrashing away to Broxburn behind them and take something home from Whitton Park. Their previous two games before last weeks heavy defeat has seen them take four points from a possible six, a 2-2 draw against Sauchie and a 3-1 away win at Jeanfield Swifts. They sit three places behind the Fed and trail by only two points. Previous scorelines between the sides last season saw both games end in draws, 1-1 away from home and a 2-2 draw (picture above) at Whitton Park, with Star equalizing in the dying minutes of the game.
Broughty go into the game with still Fraser Smith on the injury list although he is back in light training and one or two others carrying small knocks. Changes may come into the side with the new management picking the team for their first time, so expect to see one or two players possibly benched rather than starting the game.
All fans are reminded this game is a 2-30pm kick off at Whitton Park. Admission prices are £6 for Adults and £3 for Kids/OAPs. For those wishing a bite to eat, the ‘Broughty Pie Shop’ will be in operation before and during the game with hot Steak & Gravy and Mince pies on offer supplied from local butchers GRANTS, Blackness Rd, Dundee…
