Broughty Athletic get their 2016/17 Super League season back underway this Saturday when they travel to New Victoria Park to face Newtongrange Star.

The Fed will be looking to get a crucial win under their belts in the league as they face their last fifteen fixtures in the league, the halfway stage, having had a bad run of four defeats followed up with two recent draws against Linlithgow Rose and Jeanfield Swifts.

Hosts Newtongrange currently sit third bottom of the league table, three points above bottom side Fauldhouse United, on thirteen points having played seventeen games. Their last three Super League fixtures have seen them draw 2-2 with Broxburn Athletic, win 2-1 at home over Fauldhouse United but lose heavily away to Bo’ness United 4-1 mid-December. Last season’s scorelines between the sides saw both sides take the three points with wins, Newtongrange with a 3-2 win at home in September 2015 with the Fed winning the return fixture in March 2016 1-0 at Whitton Park with Stewart McConnachie scoring the only goal of the game, pictured above.

Broughty will go into the game with no fresh injury worries following their recent 2-2 friendly draw with local side Dundee Violet on Tuesday night. Recent signing Kevin Buchan, pictured left starring against Newtongrange in the March 2016 1-0 win, will no doubt be pushing for a starting place in the side following his recent move back to the club mid-December having only come on as a late substitute against Jeanfield Swifts in the 1-1 draw in Perth.

All fans are reminded this game is a 1-45pm kick off at New Victoria Park, home of Newtongrange Star.

Please note: There will be a minutes silence held in memory of former BAJFC player and captain Lee Bertie before Saturday’s game at Newtongrange Star.
