The new 2020/21 McBookie.com Premiership North season is nearly upon us with only days to go until Broughty Athletic make the short trip to face Downfield in their opening fixture of the campaign.

Season 2019/20 saw the league declared null and void due to the current Covid-19 pandemic so we go back to the season previous, 2018/19 to see the scores between the sides, a pulsating and enthralling 6-5 away win at Downfield Park was followed by a 5-0 home win at Whitton Park.

Both sides have changed some personnel on and off the field since then and both teams go into this Saturday’s league opener with their eyes firmly fixed on the prize on offer, three league points.

Broughty will welcome back three players who were recently out on loan, Brad Smith and Graham Hay who had a spell at Cowdenbeath FC and goalkeeper Sean Diamond who was at Station Park with Forfar Athletic.

The Fed have played out several pre-season friendlies as have every other team in the league but Saturday is where it all starts and we at BAJFC can’t wait. Sadly, as we all know, due to the restrictions, no fans will be able to attend the game which is to be played behind closed doors at Downfield Park, with a 1-45pm kick-off…

  • Much improved display says gaffer…

  • Smith double earns points…

  • Blairgowrie are next up…

  • Broughty got what they deserved…
