Saturday sees Broughty Athletic take on Darvel Juniors in the Scottish Junior Cup quarter-final replay at Whitton Park with the winners joining already in the hat for the semi-final draw, Pollok and Beith and the winners between the final quarter-final still to be played, Auchinleck Talbot and Hurlford.
This Saturday’s replay was set up by an injury-time equaliser from Fed striker Josh Skelly in last Saturday’s tie as the Fed were trailing 2-1 going into the final minutes of the game. Fellow striker and the club’s leading scorer Bryan Duell pulled a goal back on the hour mark as the Fed had trailed 2-0 to two early first-half goals.
Broughty manager Jamie McCunnie said in his recent interview ‘the boys were excellent’ and he’ll be looking for the same going into this replay and will be making sure he tightens up the defence that saw his side 2-0 down so early into the game. Both sides had a few chances each to get on the scoresheet but for good goalkeeping on both sides. Most social media reports billed the game as an entertaining match to watch between West and East.
Both teams have now had a look at each other and both will be better prepared going into the replay which will see a winner decided on the day if the game were to finish level after 90mins as a penalty shoot-out will determine who enters the hat for the semi-final draw.
As for team news from the Fed, returning to the squad will be club captain Graham Hay who missed last weeks game. Missing still is midfielder Ryan Ferguson. There are no fresh injury worries to contend with so a fully fit squad will be available to manager Jamie McCunnie to choose from.
All fans are reminded this game is a 2-30pm kick at Whitton Park. Please arrive early for kick-off which is at 2-30pm and please park responsibly in the surrounding areas of the ground.
Should the game in a draw after 90mins then a penalty shoot-out will take place to see who enters that hat for the semi-final draw…
