Broughty Athletic manager Keith Gibson spoke with delight following his side’s comfortable 5-3 win over Musselburgh Athletic on Saturday, his side’s first win in three following recent defeats. Read what he had to say below

“We were looking for a big reaction after our previous three performances and defeats to Fauldhouse, Hill of Beath and Camelon. We started the game really positive and continued that for the whole of the first half. We played some really good stuff and to be honest should have been out of sight first half despite only scoring the two goals.DSC_0053 (3)

We wanted to continue with this tempo and intensity into the second half but after five crazy minutes, Musselburgh had scored two goals and were back in the game. After this, we had a ten-minute spell of looking very nervy and frantic. We managed to take the lead again through a great strike from Grant Lawson, a cracking left-footed curling effort and after that we settled down and started to play again. We created some really good chances on goal and should have scored more than the three we did in the second half.

Summing the win up, apart from the first fifteen minutes of the second half and a freak own goal, I felt we were well in control of the game from the start to the end. Two big positives were the returns of Brian Clark (pictured right) and Grant Lawson who both started the game and played the full ninety minutes, you saw their quality yesterday and this is possibly what we’ve been missing in previous games. Derryn Kesson scored his first competitive goal for the club and again it was great to get him some more game time for his development.

Overall it was great to get back to winning ways after a busy schedule of games due to the call-offs at the start of the year, we have one game left at home against Fauldhouse on Wednesday night and again we’ll be looking for three points to finish the season strong and finish in eighth place in the Super League. Also, I would like to say the club will be announcing a couple of re-signings of players in the next few days as I plan for next season so look out for that..”
