New BAJFC manager Jim Finlayson gave us his thoughts on his sides 1-0 win over Newtongrange Star on Saturday in the Super League.

He said there were lots of positives, lots of promise and lots of potential at the club from what he’s seen so far. Read below what he had to say when asked about his first game in charge, and securing the three points on offer…

“I’ve been waiting for this day since myself and my backroom team took over in charge for several days now. We took in the defeat away to Linlithgow last week, letting Jamie McCunnie take the team, with us in the crowd watching. But it was our turn against Newtongrange and myself and Jimmy Glass and the guys were up for it.

I thought we started well in the game, we created a good few half chances on goal and we could have been 2-0 up before we eventually scored a good, well-worked goal. The ball from Jamie Winter to Logan Davie set up Kevin Milne to tap it in, was a great move from the back to their goal.

The second half and Newtongrange came more into it, I still thought it was a pretty even half but my lads dug in and worked really hard all over the park limiting Newtongrange to no real clear-cut chance bar hitting the crossbar. We ourselves had a further two chances near the end to kill off the game but just couldn’t find that killer second goal, Kieran McWalter smashing the crossbar, but we still managed to see the game out to collect the points.

We showed great effort and determination today, the lads did well, but we get back to training midweek and prepare for next Saturday’s game against Broxburn. The boys here are a great squad, with great potential, hopefully over the coming week or so we might be adding to the squad with a new face or two, we’ll see what happens…”
