Broughty Athletic manager praised his side after their 4-2 win over Stonehaven in the third round of the GA Engineering Cup on Saturday, saying he was encouraged by their majority of possession and chances created on goal.
Read below what he had to say on the victory…
“I was really happy when the referee decided to play the game on Saturday as when we first arrived at Glenury Park and saw the pitch, I thought it had no chance of being on and it was going to be another wasted Saturday with no football.
As for the game, I thought we started with a really good tempo felt we controlled large parts of the first half. We created a lot of really good chances on goal and got into some excellent positions. The only disappointing thing was that we lost a sloppy goal again after being in control and on a couple of occasions we looked a bit vulnerable to Stonehaven’s counter attacks.
The second half was much the same as the first as in possession and chances and I was really pleased with our second-half performance. We played on the front foot throughout the half on very tricky pitch conditions. Stewart McConnachie (pictured left) came into the starting eleven and I thought he linked up very well with our midfielders and his overall play was excellent.
It was great to get a win under our belts though and hopefully, the players can take confidence from this result. Next week is a massive game for us as we welcome Newtongrange Star to Whitton Park in the league as we need to start picking up points quickly. Hopefully, we can now get a run of games to get some momentum going into the latter part of the season…”
