BAJFC manager Jim Finlayson couldn’t hide his disappointment following his side’s exit from the Scottish Cup on Saturday to lower league side and former 2006 winners Bathgate Thistle at Whitton Park. Read what he had to say on the game below…

“What can I say about the result on Saturday… We started the game really well I thought and deservedly went one up from a great header from Hayzer and proceeded to dominate the game. Thier keeper had a great save from Kevin Milne and Derryn Kesson went on to miss a great chance on goal to put us further ahead.

Kev had another chance for his second goal but couldn’t keep his shot down. Then bang, against the run of play Bathgate went up the park and scored to equalise, a sloppy goal at that. We lost our momentum in the match at this point and Bathgate capitalized and punished us scoring their 2nd goal. I thought we finished the first half with us on the front foot and I knew we’d get back into the game.

Second half we again continued to dominate. Garry Kenneth rattles the crossbar with a header and another one which scraped the post. The chances could and should have us back in the game but sadly not. We sadly then go into a crazy patch in the game, we lost two players to sending offs, which I felt were harsh decisions from the match official, but we continued to press for an equaliser and played well. Deep into injury time we had free kick outside their box which they scrambled clear, punted up the park and score their third to finish us off.

Am I happy about the result, no way, not at all, I’m very disappointed all round. To dominate a game the way we did then to lose like we did is hard to take. We now have to regroup and put this game to bed as games don’t come any harder as this weekend we have Bonnyrigg Rose in the league at Whitton. With injuries and suspensions, we will be pushing it for a team this weekend but we’ll put in the training sessions and take it from there…
