Broughty Athletic make the trip to Fife to face South Division side Lochgelly Albert in the 2nd round of the DJ Laing sponsored, East of Scotland Cup at Gardiners Park.
Broughty’s Super League fixture against Broxburn Athletic at Whitton Park was called off last week due to the weather but arranged a friendly against senior side Montrose FC on Tuesday night to give the squad some match time under their belts before this Saturday’s cup clash.
Hosts Lochgelly currently sit fourth in their East Region South Division league after sixteen games playing alongside the likes of Blackburn United, Oakley United and Pumpherston Juniors. Their last three league games consisted of a 4-2 defeat away to Oakley, a 1-1 draw at home to Crossgates Primrose and a 2-0 away win at Craigroyston. To make Saturday’s cup tie against the Fed, Lochgelly defeated Pumpherston Juniors 6-5 after a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw after 90 minutes.
Broughty go into the game with several injury worries, with Jake Mair and John Sinclair definitely out so a shuffle of positions could be made by manager Keith Gibson. Broughty’s last competitive match was a 3-1 away win at Culter JFC in the Ga Engineering Cup two weeks ago.
Kick off at Gardiners Park, home of hosts Lochgelly Albert, is at 2-15pm. Should the game end in a draw after 90 minutes then a penalty shootout will determine who plays Broxburn Athletic away in the 3rd round.
