Broughty Athletic reserve goalkeeper, John Sinclair, was a match winner and hero over fellow players Kieran Ross and Conor Samson as his school side, Menziehill High School, ran out 3-2 winners against rivals St Johns High School in Senior Johnstone Cup at Tannadice Park last week.
After a pretty even first half between both sides, it was John’s side that went in 2-0 ahead at halftime with goals from Jordan winter and Liam Hornby, with John (pictured left playing for BAJFC) himself pulling off several good saves to keep his side ahead.
In the second half, Menziehill’s Ben Mooney put his side 3-0 up before St Johns High School fought back and hammered chance after chance against John but he kept on pulling off the saves. They did, however, manage to pull back two goals to make the scoreline 3-2 but John managed to keep out an equalizer that St Johns HS deserved.
After speaking with John regarding the game he had this to say… “I’m so happy to have won the game and trophy. It was a hard fought match, very tiring as the game wore on. I can’t believe a number of saves I had to make, I’m sure it was well into double figures. To quote one of my coaches, in the report from a local paper…“heaped praise on goalkeeper John Sinclair for pulling a wonder save late in the game , it was like Gordon Banks’ famous save for England and John managed to somehow put the ball over the bar..”.
Sadly one team had to lose and it was St Johns High School, as did both other Broughty Athletic players, Kieran Ross and Conor Samson, who both played well for their school team.
All at BAJFC congratulate all three players involved in the final.
