Broughty Athletic welcome Premier League side Jeanfield Swifts to Whitton Park on Wednesday night in the semi-final of the GA Engineering Cup. Following Saturday’s 4-1 rout of Penicuik Athletic, Broughty boss Keith Gibson will be hoping his side can make the final of the club’s main sponsor, GA Engineering.
But a hard test and game are in store for the Fed as Jeanfield will be all out to impress, as they have done in the respective Premier League where they currently sit third top, but with games in hand, so could have a say on automatic promotion or the play-offs to the Super League for next season.
Their recent run of form has seen them draw against Dundonald Bluebell, but defeat both Lochee United and Kennoway Star Hearts, but suffer a heavy 5-1 defeat at the hands of Bathgate Thistle on Saturday in the league. So again, a hard task is in store for the Fed come Wednesday night.
Broughty will be without Brian Clark (pictured left) as he is cup-tied, but welcomed back to the squad Jay Smart and Jamie McCunnie in the win over Penicuik Athletic on Saturday. No other fresh injury worries are in the squad as manager Keith Gibson has headaches over his starting eleven for the game.
All fans are reminded this game is a 6-45pm kick-off at Whitton Park. Should the game be level after ninety minutes then a penalty shoot-out will decide who makes the final of the GA Engineering Cup to face either winner of the Carnoustie Panmure versus Lochee United semi-final played the same night..
