Broughty Athletic put their recent two defeats behind them tonight as they ran out comfortable 2-0 winners away to sixth-placed, in the Super League, Broxburn Athletic at Albyn Park. The Fed were on the end of a 6-1 thumping from tonight’s hosts only twelve days ago at Whitton Park followed by a 2-0 loss to local rivals Lochee United so tonight’s win has come as a welcome boost for the Fed.
The Fed were missing captain Jamie Winter through suspension with Ross McCord replacing him. Goalkeeper Iain Ross was rested and John Sinclair took his place in the goal and secured his second clean sheet in his second appearance this season. Defender Jay Smart started in the heart of the defence alongside Barry Myles.
With the sides level at halftime, Broughty striker Stuart McConnachie (pictured right) broke the deadlock putting the Fed 1-0. The scoreline was doubled not long after when Paul McLellan saw his effort hit the back of the net. The win moves Broughty on to 40 points, level on points with Lochee United and only two points behind tonight’s hosts but with two games in hand on them. The win see’s the Fed surpass last season’s maiden season in the Super League points total of 39 points. A fantastic achievement from everyone at the club on and off the pitch.
The Fed now face their last away game of the season this coming Saturday when they travel to face Musselburgh Athletic with two homes games against Bonnyrigg Rose and Lochee United still to come at Whitton Park.
