Broughty Athletic welcome North Division and local side East Craigie to Whitton Park this Saturday in the first round of the DJ Laing sponsored East of Scotland Cup.
Broughty will be looking to put last weekends 3-0 Super League loss to away to Dundonald Bluebell at the back of their minds and get back to winning ways with a win come Saturday. In the first round of the competition last year Broughty won 1-0 away to West Calder United as East Craigie crashed to a 2-0 defeat away to Luncarty.
Visitors East Craigie currently occupy the fifth position in the North Division league after four games, three wins and a defeat all on their travels. Craigie manager Craig Brown, pictured left, a former Junior player himself with the likes of Carnoustie Panmure, North End and Dundee Violet, will be looking for a quick reaction from his side following last Saturdays 7-2 thrashing at the hands of Blairgowrie who sit below them in the sixth position, but it’s cup football and on the day, anything can happen as they say.
Broughty go into the game with Fraser Smith missing the game through injury but will welcome back Kevin Milne and Paul McLellan who both missed last Saturday’s defeat due to holiday commitments. Kieran McWalter is still on holiday but Dayle Robertson is back training and may be content with a place on the bench.
Saturday’s game is to be known as ‘Sandy’s Game’, in respect of former Craigie and Broughty physio Sandy Dorward sadly who passed away recently after representing both clubs throughout his junior career in the game.
All fans are reminded this game is a 2-30pm kick off at Whitton Park. Should the game end in a draw after 90mins then a penalty shootout will determine who enters the hat for the second round draw. For those wishing a bite to eat, the ‘Broughty Pie Shop’ will be in operation serving hot pies, snacks etc…
