Broughty Athletic and Downfield JFC will try again this Saturday to play their scheduled 3rd round tie in the Scottish Cup, sponsored by ETHX ENERGY, following the last two Saturday’s being called off due to a frozen Downfield Park surface.
The Fed are currently on a poor run of results just now, having lost their last four league games to Carnoustie Panmure, Camelon, Bo’ness United and more recently Kelty Hearts, so a change of scenery is welcomed by Fed gaffer Keith Gibson as his side prepares for cup football.
Hosts Downfield set up this 3rd round clash having disposed of SJFA North Division One side Nairn St Ninian 1-0 in the 2nd round. League matters, Downfield currently sit in 6th position in the East Region Premier League, 9 points behind leaders Kennoway Star Hearts but with 2 games in hand. The previous year they finished winners of the North Division thus gaining promotion to the Premier League.
Broughty will welcome back Brian Clark and James Collier, pictured left, to the squad, both having missed the last several games due to injury. Both players featured in the last two friendly wins over Forfar West End and more recently, Tayport, and could feature in the squad at some point come Saturday. Captain Jamie Winter should make the squad despite a niggling injury that has kept him out of the recent friendlies. Paul McLellan is available despite his sending off away to Kelty Hearts in the league.
All fans are reminded this game is a 1-45pm kick off at Downfield Park, home of Downfield JFC.
Should the game end in a draw after 90mins then the game will go to a replay at Whitton Park on Saturday 10th December, cancelling Broughty’s proposed Super League fixture at home against Linlithgow Rose and Downfield’s visit to Tranent Juniors in the Premier League.
