Broughty Athletic JFC can officially announce that defender Jay Smart is to leave the club and take up the assistant manager’s role at local side Lochee Harp for the new season ahead.
Jay, pictured with the GA Engineering Cup, played for senior sides Raith Rovers, East Fife and Montrose FC and signed on at the Fed back in September 2015 from local side Dundee North End and made 29 appearances during the 2016/17, scoring seven goals in the process. He also starred in the side that won 5-1 against Tayport in the GA Engineering Cup at the end of May.
When he played, Jay always gave 100% in every game for the Fed, his presence in the team was just enough to put some opposition strikers off the boil before a ball was kicked, and will be sorely missed. Not only on the pitch but off it, Jay was a great guy to be around and always offered words of encouragement for his fellow team mates when he was on the sidelines and he always liked a photo or two of himself by our club photographer.
Everyone at BAJFC would like to wish Jay all the absolute very best in his new role as assistant manager at Lochee Harp as well as registering as a player for the side should they need him. They are getting a great team player who has gained much experience over the years he’s been playing the game at Senior and Junior levels.
