Broughty Athletic suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Highland League visitors, Fraserburgh FC, this afternoon at Whitton Park.

Following on from Broughty’s 3-0 home win over local side Dundee Argyle midweek, the Fed knew they would face a sterner test against their semi-professional opponents, and they did but also more than matched their visitors at stages throughout the game.

A lapse in concentration from Ryan Suttie, playing in the centre-half position due to Jamie Sime being sidelined through injury, saw his light back pass not reaching Fed keeper Iain Ross and it allowed the Fraserburgh striker into slot home past Ross in the tenth minute. Despite several chances by the home side, Broughty failed to find the net in the first half.

Second half and Broughty made a few changes, using the whole registered squad for match fitness. No goals came through for either side but Broughty again had several chances but just never found the net and limited the visitors to one shot on goal the whole half. F/T 0-1.

Broughty now face local side North End on Tuesday night at Whitton Park with a 7pm kick-off.
