It’s a battle of the Athletic’s this Saturday in the third round of the DJ Laing sponsored East of Scotland Cup as Broughty travel to face fellow league side Broxburn at Albyn Park.

Hosts Broxburn eventually defeated Kirriemuir Thistle in a 4-3 penalty shootout win following a 3-3 draw after ninety minutes of football in the second round to set up the home tie on Saturday. Broughty ran out 2-0 winners over Lochgelly Albert at Whitton Park following a ground swap after Gardiners Park was ruled unfit to play on due to the wet weather back in February.

Broxburn’s last three fixtures have seen them rack up two wins over Musselburgh Athletic and Camelon in the league with a defeat away to leaders Kelty Hearts in the league. They currently occupy fifth position, two places above the Fed, with one point more gained but the Fed have two games in hand. Both sides have yet to face each other this season in the league campaign. Last season Broxburn won both games home and away, both with 2-1 scorelines.

Broughty go into the game on the back of three wins on the trot, against Dundonald Bluebell and Fauldhouse in the league and a GA Cup win over Hermes JFC, with a near full squad to choose from with Brian Clark returning in the 2-0 win over Fauldhouse United last Saturday from injury.

All fans are reminded this game is a 2-30pm kick off at Albyn Park. Should the game end in a draw after ninety minutes then a penalty shootout will determine who enters the hat for the next round draw.
