Broughty Athletic’s four-game unbeaten league run came to a shuddering halt this afternoon as they went down 4-3 at Whitton Park to near neighbours Carnoustie Panmure.

After going a goal behind early on in the game, Paul McLellan equalised for the Fed , scoring his first goal of the season, before the visitors added a further two goals in the last four minutes of the half to go in at half time 3-1 up despite Broughty hitting the crossbar twice and the post once.

A second half fightback from Broughty saw them equalise with two goals in two minutes from central defender Jay Smart, levelling the score at 3-3. But a late goal in the dying minutes saw the visitors go back down the road with all three points and condemn Broughty to their first defeat at home in the league this season.

The only other two fixtures in the Super League today saw Boness United draw 0-0 with Camelon and Dundonald Bluebell win 2-1 away to Musselburgh Athletic. Broughty still stay in second top position in the league after today’s results.

Broughty take a break from league action next Saturday when they welcome Blairgowrie JFC to Whitton Park in the first round of the GA Engineering Cup.
