Broughty Athletic lost their thrid Super League on the bounce, going down 3-0 at home to league leaders Boness United at Whitton Park.
In a poor first half from the home side, despite a great chance from McConnachie shooting just past the post, it was the visitors who took the lead on 18mins, lobbing Broughty goalkeeper Iain Ross, 0-1. Boness doubled their lead on 32mins from a corner, after goalkeeper Ross saved a point blank effort with his hand over the bar, when a low shot hit the back of the net despite an effort from Kris Brash (see pic)to block the shot, 0-2. Boness went on to hit the post on 43mins but no further scoring brought the halftime whistle.
Second half brought out a different Broughty side as chances came a plenty. First off was Lee Sibanda’s miss on 60mins, heading wide from a corner. Three minutes later Sibanda again headed over the bar when certain to score. 67mins Broughty’s Grant Lawson went on a run, but his shot flew over the crossbar. 72mins Lawson once again but his close shot was hurried out for a corner when it looked like a certain goal was to be scored. Then on 73mins the game was over as the visitors scored their third and final goal, shooting in past Ross, 0-3 F/T.
First half was poor from Broughty, Boness played well and passed very well. Second half Broughty upped their game, created several clear cut chances but just couldn’t find the net.
Up next for The Fed is Scottish Junior Cup duty when they face the journey to Cumnock on Saturday.
