Broughty Athletic came from behind to run out 5-2 winners over visitors North End tonight at a rain-soaked Whitton Park tonight.
Broughty fell behind after 20mins when a shot from the edge of the box gave keeper Iain Ross no chance. It took until the half-hour mark for Broughty to equalize courtesy of trialist Danny Cavanagh’s lob over the advancing North End keeper. Then just before the halftime whistle, the visitors took a lead that deserved their first half showing, going in at the break 1-2 up.
The second half was 10 minutes old when Broughty equalized for the second time, striker James Collier, pictured right, netting in from close range past the keeper,2-2. On 63 minutes Broughty took the lead for the first time in the game when Cavanagh slotted home his second of the game,3-2. Then on 69mins Cavanagh completed his hat-trick tapping home from a Grant Lawson low cross from the left side,4-2. Then the scoring was finished when Grant Lawson beat three defenders and curled the ball into the net to make it 5-2.
A great run out again for the Fed, who were missing Stewart McConnachie and Frankie Lannen. North End put in a great shift in the first half, more than matching the Fed throughout the 45mins. As the second half wore on Broughty took over and despite several other clear-cut chances, they managed to take a hold of the game and score four well-taken goals.
Broughty now travel south to face Morecombe FC on Saturday and then return to face their last pre-season friendly game on Tuesday night when they travel to face Cupar Hearts.
