Broughty Athletic take on Lothian side Bathgate Thistle this Saturday in the second round of the Junior Scottish Cup at Whitton Park.
The former Scottish Cup winners back in 2008, defeating Cumnock Juniors 2-1 in the final, set up the second round clash at Whitton Park following their 2-1 away win at Aberdeen North Division side Lewis United in the first round back in September. The Fed received a bye in the first round.
Bathgate currently sit fourth-bottom of their Premier League following just two wins and 5 drawn games with three defeats. Their latest result was a heavy 4-1 away defeat to local side Downfield JFC two Saturdays ago. And their fixture last week fell foul of the freak weather just like Broughty’s trip to Hill of Beath so both sides go into the game without a competitive 90mins under their belts.
Broughty go into the game minus three influential players missing through injury so manager Jim Finlayson will have to shuffle his pack around for Saturday’s game. Missing are defenders Ryan Suttie and Jamie McCunnie along with winger Paul McLellan. Returning to the squad will be attacking midfield playmaker Brian Clark and he will add a much-needed boost to the squad but may have to be contempt with a place on the bench.
All fans are reminded this game is a 2-30pm kick off at Whitton Park. Should the game end level after 90mins then a replay will be arranged for Saturday 4th November at Creamery Park, home of Bathgate Thistle and that fixture would thus cancel Broughty’s arranged home league fixture to Bonnyrigg Rose the same date.
The ‘Broughty Pie Shop’ will be in operation before and during the game should anyone wish a bite to eat with hot pies on offer from local award winning butcher, GRANTS, Blackness Road in Dundee…
The club would also like to thank Mark Addison of MA ROOFING in Dundee for being the match ball sponsor for Saturday’s Scottish Junior Cup game.
Also, Broughty United under 14’s will be the match ball boys for the game and all at BAJFC thank the lads for giving up their time on Saturday.
