A Matty Adam double secured another friendly win on Tuesday night for Broughty Athletic as they defeated Premier League side Tayport 4-3 at the GA Arena.

The game was a chance for Fed manager Keith Gibson to use his whole squad and give them some valuable match time before this Saturday’s 3rd round Scottish Cup tie against local side Downfield JFC. The previous two scheduled Saturday’s were called off due to a frozen Downfield Park surface but hopefully with the weather well above freezing levels the game will go ahead this Saturday.

As for the friendly, Broughty went in at halftime 1-0 ahead courtesy of a Ross McCord free-kick goal. Several changes were made at halftime, James Collier, Matty Adam, Derryn Kesson, James Yates, Frankie Lannen all coming on. Broughty extended their lead with two further goals from Matty Adam, 3-0. On the hour mark reserve keeper Josh Allardyce replaced Iain Ross in the goal, then Tayport pulled a goal back to make it 3-1.

Late substitute Jamie Winter went on to score Broughty’s fourth goal to make it 4-1 before a late surge from Tayport, scoring two late goals, completed the scoring for the night at 4-3.

Fed manager Keith Gibson said after the game… “Another good work out from the lads throughout the whole team. Again it was pleasing to see James Collier and Brian Clark in the team, they both put in a decent shift after their injuries. Good to see young Matty netting a couple too. I’ll now go and have a hard think of the starting eleven for Saturday’s cup game at Downfield…”

Broughty will face local Junior side Downfield JFC on Saturday in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup at Downfield Park, with a 1-45pm kick off.
