It’s all change at Broughty Athletic JFC as the club announce a new President and Vice President to help take the club forward off the park, as well as on it. Taking over the reigns of the day to day running of the club, especially on match days, will be Sean Donaldson as President with Alan Suttie as Vice-President.
Sean has been at the club since August 2015, taking on the roles of club photographer on match days and running the club’s official website which is up there as one of the best and most viewed websites in the East Region junior scene, as well as bringing new and fresh sponsors to the club. Alan has been following the Fed since his son Ryan signed back in November 2015, before joining the committee several months back to help out behind the scenes on match days. He has a total hands-on approach to Saturday matters at the club and will be a great asset to all.
Both men were delighted to take over the reigns until the end of the season and possibly beyond after in-depth meetings with club owner Gordon Deuchars and other committee members. Sean, pictured below, had this to say on his and Alan’s new appointments at the club…
“I’m absolutely honoured to be asked to take up such a position here at Broughty. Since I’ve been at the club I’ve seen how many different things work including seeing the team get picked, training with the squad, to ordering pies for the pie shop, to the making of sandwiches to the general upkeep of the place. I am more than happy to offer a hand to keep things going and make things better off the park where possible. I took on a temporary role to give the website a lift 19 months ago when asked and who would have thought I’d be in this position now!
We have a Super League team on the park and their aim is to keep that status again this season. My aim is to make us a Super League team off the park too, by being more active in and around the park. We’ll be holding the odd Matchday Hospitality days before the end of the season, starting on Saturday 11th March at home to Hermes JFC in the GA Cup with one of our club sponsors, the Boars Rock pub, and we aim to bring in more sponsors to the club and people through the gate to Whitton Park and making the place a great place to be and involved with.
As people know in the Junior scene there is a lot involved in running clubs, there is so much to do but we have a good team of committee members here, as well as being on the look out for new members, who are more than helpful and a massive asset to the club to help us along on match days and during the week. We had two home games under our belts at Whitton Park, against Lochgelly Albert last weekend after their pitch was deemed unplayable and more recently against Bo’ness United. There was a great buzz around the place before and during the game despite the result against Bo’ness and also against Lochgelly.
The plans are in place for a new stadium and surface for the start of the August 2018 season following the City Council’s planning go-ahead so things are looking really good for the club off the park and I’m more than happy to roll my sleeves up and help the club and owner Gordon Deuchars any way I can. I’ll still be carrying out my duties with the website and match day photography as normal when I can, they are my first priorities and the players know that.
As for Alan Suttie, pictured left, I suggested he’d be a great asset in the Vice-President’s role and he gladly accepted when asked by Gordon and myself. When I’m not available on match days due to work commitments or photography commitments elsewhere, we’re more than comfortable in leaving the running of the club in Alan’s hands. It’s going to be exciting times ahead for everyone at the club and everyone visiting Whitton Park or dealing with the club will be more than welcome, looked after and treated well…”
All at BAJFC wish Sean and Alan all the very best at the club…
