Broughty Athletic’s pre-season training got underway last night at Whitton Park in preparation for the new 2017/18 season ahead.
As well as the players, along with three young trialists, being put through their paces with fast sprints, slow jogs and a team kick about, the club welcomed another four new signings to the squad. Strikers Kevin Milne and Dayle Robertson along with midfielder Fraser Smith and defender Gary Kenneth, join recently signed Graham Hay at the club for the Fed’s Super League and domestic cup competition campaigns for next season, pictured below.
Highly rated striker Kevin Milne, no.14 pictured below, signed from local side Downfield JFC on a two-year deal. Dayle Robertson joins from another local side being Dundee North End, having rattled in over thirty goals for his former club last season. Central midfielder Fraser Smith, no.17 below, joins from fellow Super League side Jeanfield Swifts on a one-year deal. Also signed is former Dundee United defender Garry Kenneth on a one-year deal with former Lochee United defender Graham Hay on a two-year deal.
The new faces met their new squad mates and fitted in well in their first session of pre-season training. Fed assistant manager Charlie King along with coach Tony McAuley blended in the more experienced players with the new faces and trialist youngsters and put them through their paces across Whitton Park.
Broughty goalkeeping coach Mark Murray had his two goalkeepers, 2016/17 Player of the Year Iain Ross (pictured below) and John Sinclair, along with a guest keeper, going through their paces, diving, saving, sprinting throughout the session. Missing due to holiday commitments were Ryan Suttie, Barry Myles and Drew Fleming but it won’t be long until they are back and training with a promising looking squad for the campaign ahead.
Broughty’s first pre-season friendly is away to Dunbar United on Saturday 15th July, ten days from now, but with heavy training sessions planned before that, the lads will hopefully be ready for the game. More on the club’s recent new signings will come over the coming weeks ahead…
