Broughty Athletic take a break from Super League action this Saturday when they travel to take on Cumnock Juniors at Townhead Park in the 1st round of the Scottish Junior Cup.
Fresh off the back of their third league defeat in a row to league leaders Boness United, Fed manager Keith Gibson is expecting a vast improvement from his side as they take on their Ayrshire opponents. Back in contention of starting upfront is striker Byran Duell (pictured below)returning from suspension, having been sent off against Newtongrange Star. Defender Barry Myles is still out injured with a hip injury but with a slight chance of making the squad and recent new signing Jamie Sime is back training, albeit very light training following his injury. Otherwise The Fed will be at full strength as they make the trip to Ayrshire.
Hosts Cumnock play in the West Region Super League First Division alongside the likes of Kilwinning Rangers, Maybole Juniors and Kilsyth Rangers but to name a few. They currently sit fourth bottom of a fourteen team league, having only played three games, winning one and suffering two defeats. Cumnock have won the Scottish Cup on two occasions in their clubs history, back in 1979 and 1989.
A tough game is in store, for both teams. Should the game end in a draw after 90 minutes, then a replay is scheduled for Whitton Park Saturday 3rd October. Should the replay end in a draw then straight to penalties to decide who enters the hat for the second round draw. (There is no extra-time after replays in Junior football).
