GETTING ON WITH IT UNITIL INJURY LIST IMPROVES

Manager Kenny Cameron has given the website his usual mid-week review and pre-view

“Firstly I would like to welcome Mike Tracey to the backroom staff at the Club. He has already shown this week that he is extremely keen and enthusiastic and I am sure will be of great value to the Club throughout the course of the season. Mike will also assist our Under 17 team on a Sunday.

“That now brings our backroom staff to five, which will definitely lighten the load for everyone.

“We are in the unusual position of having to play the same team for the second week in a row when we entertain Arbroath Vics at Whitton Park in the East of Scotland Cup this Saturday. The Vics tie is also the first of a double-header of cup games with us facing Newburgh at home the week after in the Redwood Cup.

“These two cup ties will be a welcome distraction from league duty and are games that everyone at the Club is looking forward to.

“In keeping with the last month or so, we will be again missing a large chunk of our squad through injury unfortunately. The absentees include long-term injury victims Marc O'Leary, Gordon MacDonald and John Cameron plus we have a couple of players requiring fitness tests before the game.

Add in the enforced omission of Josh Perera, who is cup-tied, and I’m hopeful we will have a squad of sixteen!!

“We just have to get on with it I'm afraid, but hopefully we will see a return to action for some of those recently side-lined, sooner rather than later, and see an end to this injury situation which we find ourselves in just now.

WEBSITE GIVES BROUGHTY POLE POSITION

This week the Club replied to an enquiry from a football fan based in the Felińskiego area of Warsaw, who was interested in obtaining Broughty Athletic pin badges and t-shirts. Sadly we had to decline this specific request, primarily of course because the Club doesn’t have any souvenirs(!) and secondly because this particular souvenir hunter was looking for freebies!

This week’s request is not entirely an isolated incident and perhaps one day the Club may be able to offer have a limited range of souvenirs. More significantly, however, our fan in Poland is just part of a steady growth in the number of people visiting the site – and that’s good news for the Club and its various sponsors.

COACH MIKE TRACEY JOINS THE FED

We bid a warm Whitton Park welcome to Mike Tracey (pictured left), who has joined Manager Kenny Cameron’s coaching staff.

Mike’e profile is now included in the "Meet The Manager and his coaching staff" section of the site and shows that twenty-five year old Mike already has considerable first-hand experience of football played in diverse locations - and a shared liking, along with Greg Mathieson and Josh Perera, for a certain Megan Fox!

CANDID CAMERON - THE MANAGER'S VERDICT

Manage Kenny Cameron was satisfied with several aspects of Saturday’s win over Arbroath Vics:

"The difference between last week's result and this was simply us taking the chances which fell our way in the game.

“All credit to the boys as we have worked hard this week on the training ground at our final product in the final third of the pitch and I think that told today as we looked sharp in and around the box.

“Credit must also go to the defensive side of our game, as I feel it was this that gave us the platform to win the game. Also another big plus was the fact that we have kept yet another clean sheet in a game this season.

“As you would expect with any team managed by Jake Ferrier, Arbroath Vics were organised and awkward opponents but I felt we went about our job today in a thoroughly professional manner and fully deserved our three points.

MATCH REPORT - BROUGHTY ATHLETIC 2 ARBROATH VICTORIA 0 - 15 NOVEMBER 2008

Broughty entertained Arbroath Vics at Whitton Park yesterday afternoon in a North Division league game, the first part of a double-header as both teams will meet again at the same venue next week in an East Of Scotland Cup tie.

Considering all the games being played on it recently, Whitton Park was again looking in great nick for this time of the season. Despite the prevailing blustery conditions, a healthy crowd again was inside the ground at kick off time as the league leaders looked to get back to winning ways.

As early as the second minute of the game, Broughty were on top with the referee seemingly the only person in the ground not to see what was a stonewall penalty, when Russell was blatantly tripped in the box by a Vics defender.

The goal did come in the eleventh minute when PERERA won the ball on the half way line before playing a one-two with Munn before finishing neatly into the corner of the net from the edge of the box.

It could have been two moments later, when only a last-ditch tackle prevented Farrell from doubling the home side's lead.

The second goal did however arrive in the seventeenth minute of the game when FARRELL pounced on a mistake by the visiting keeper to score from eight yards.

The visitors only real attempt in the first half arrived in the thirty-eighth minute when Fotheringham saw his shot from distance rise high over the bar.

Broughty did force a couple of free kicks and corners before the half time whistle without really troubling the goalie.

Half Time: Broughty Athletic 2 Arbroath Vics 0

Broughty started off the half slowly giving the ball away needlessly in the first ten minutes. They did however create the first chance of the half when good work down the left from MacLeod saw his effort hit the back post and away to safety with the goalie well beaten.

Vics responded in the sixtieth minute when, after confusion by the Broughty defence for the first time in the game, Pearson carved out an opportunity for himself only to see his effort go high and wide of the target.

The visitors were beginning to apply some pressure but the home side's defence looked strong and organised and they stopped any Vics attack with some excellent defending.

In the middle stages of the second half play became rather scrappy with neither team making good use of the ball and both failing to string three passes together.

A clever free kick involving Russell and Smith saw the former see a shot drift inches wide of the target in the seventy-fifth minute of the game.

Brown was next up for the Fed in the eightieth minute, when he was unlucky to see a fine header from a Smith corner saved by the Vics goalie.

Although seldom seen as an attacking force, the visitors did create a chance for Warren when his shot from the edge of the box was well held by Cormack in the eighty-second minute.

Broughty created another couple of half chances in the game before the final whistle, neither of which really tested the goalie in a game that the home side ran out comfortable winners to remain top of the league.

Broughty Athletic: A Cormack, Munn (Murdoch), Brown, Farrell, Smith, Russell, R Cormack (Morrison) MacLeod, Myles, Bertie, Perera (Trialist)

STUBBETRON! ANDO IS SPONSORED BY HIS MATE BARRIE

Goalkeeper Mark Anderson has confirmed that he will be sponsored this season by his good friend, Barrie Stubbs.

Barrie attached only one condition to his generous sponsorship; that his name should be should be shown as Barrie Stubbs-Stubbetron. Ando clarified the situation: “It’s not a company name, he just thinks he’s funny!”

Stubbs or Stubbs-Stubbetron, we thank Barrie for his much valued support.
